Guatemi, Queen of Helge, reveals that Ingeborg is still in love with Frithjof, who has been sent into exile. Nevertheless, Ring takes Ingeborg as his wife. When Frithjof returns and does not find Ingeborg, tensions between Helge and Frithjof escalate, leading to great destruction.
Driven by longing, Ingeborg returns to her now devastated homeland, where Frithjof awaits her, hoping they can escape together. But Ingeborg chooses not to follow Frithjof—she decides to stay with Ring.
At a royal celebration, Ring, Ingeborg, Frithjof, and Guatemi finally meet. Yet the potentially dangerous confrontation ends not in violence, but in wise and hopeful resolution.
